Hunter Reports
Mike Sondeno – Dall Sheep – Alaska
Greetings,
I have attached the hunt questionnaire and a photo of my ram on the hunt Tom Lundgren and had with Jeff Burwell. We had a really good time and Jeff does a good job with his camp and area. My comments are not a complaint about the lack of quality rams or a reflection on Jeff. It is just the truth of the hunt. Jeff and his guides could not have worked harder in any way for our sheep hunt. We hunted hard every day, covered countless miles on horseback and on foot, and spent time in most of the drainages in the Bear Lake area. We saw a lot of sheep, and probably 50-60 rams, but they were all juvenile and not legal. The only 2 rams of legal size were the 2 we finally ended up taking. I passed up the ram in the photo that is attached, 2 days into the hunt because we could tell he was very small, yet legal being over full curl. I ended up taking him on the last hours of the last day after a grueling climb to get to him. The efforts of the guides cannot be overstated, they were tremendous and I certainly appreciated all they did. The only point I am trying to make, is maybe this part of Jeff’s area needs to rest for a few years or something. As expensive as these hunts are there really should be more legal rams to see. I would not hesitate to go back and hunt with Jeff, I would just wait a few years.
The main thing is we both got rams, (Tom’s was a record book and beautiful!), and had a great time.
On to the next hunt.
Regards,
Mike Sondeno
