Afghan Urial – updated June 3, 2009
The Afghan urial is one of the more difficult of the urial species to take due to more rugged country and low numbers. Hunters should be in very good physical condition and be able to climb 10,000 to 11,000 feet. The hunt takes place in the southwestern corner of Tajikistan. Hunters fly to Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and then drive to the hunting area by vehicle. Long-time sheep expert Ansten Ostbye of Norway will personally conduct and guide on the hunt. Permits are few, plan two to three years in advance.
Hunting is presently closed, but we have hopes that it will open in 2009.
